Slatin Group Introduces The DMO Accessibility Blueprint

January 2, 2020

Building on our pioneering work helping NYC & Company create Accessible NYC, including content on accessible places, attractions and activities; NYC Talks panel discussions on accessible travel and tourism; and a marketing video centered on a local family with a wheelchair user visiting New York attractions, we’re plunging into the Destination Management Organization marketplace.

We’ll guide DMOs across the U.S. and beyond follow as they both follow NYC & Company’s lead or create their own path to becoming a truly accessible destination. That’s why we’ve begun an exciting collaboration with Lakshmee Lachhman-Persad, the editor and publisher of accessibletravelnyc.com. After all, it’s Lakshmee and her family who are featured in that video!.

This builds on our past work with a variety of tourism stakeholders in the cruise ship port of Juneau, Alaska. There we helped our clients uncover a funding stream and work closely with local excursion managers and businesses to facilitate the full enjoyment of Juneau as an accessible destination. NYC Talks: Accessibility on the Web Looking forward to our second NYC & Company NYC Talks panel, Feb. 11 at Manhattan Manor, 8:30-10:30 a.m. Our discussion on web accessibility will help business owners and nonprofit managers understand the whys, whens and hows of this essential element of accessible and, yes, inclusive business while also learning about the potential legal pitfalls of non-compliance.

We’re especially excited to have web accessibility pioneer Sharron Rush of Knowbility – (host of the annual John Slatin Access U.). Sharron will be joined by attorney Sam Swerdlov of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and designer Sabrina Hall. Find more information here.
